Abstract

This session will focus on innovative remote sensing tools, instruments, methods and applications for improving our understanding of urban temperatures.

Our understanding of the thermal behaviour of cities has been significantly advanced in recent years, with thermal remote sensing playing an important role. Satellite and airborne platforms have continuously improving revisit frequencies, sensing resolutions and accuracies. This session will discuss the recent advances and challenges in the exploitation of various Earth Observation data and methods related to urban thermal behaviour.

Original studies are solicited over a wide range of topics, which may focus on, but are not limited to:

  • Urban multi-scale land surface temperature analysis
  • Upcoming thermal infrared satellite missions
  • Thermal-Optical/Radar/Hyperspectral data fusion
  • Urban energy and emissions
  • Urban climate
  • Urban heat island
